Googles Business Bubble Ads

Back in November Google began showing adwords ads within the local business bubble that appears when a consumer is looking for a local business. This new approach of showing relevant ads has made many local florist uneasy with their local listing showing national companies with in their business listings.

Over the past few months we have noticed that consumers that have called our shop have been thinking that they where calling xyz florist and since we do advertise our business by targeting other cities when consumers are looking for a florist to deliver flowers we assumed that perhaps they were getting confused by our ads. Even though our ads clearly show our business name and that we deliver to the city there was still something wrong with how our ads were being interpreted.

Last week as I was trying to discover what could be causing this problem and also noticing that our conversions to our website sales were declining I started to gather information from our website access logs to find out what was going on. When I did this I noticed a search term for another florist that caught my eye and began to test it to see how the consumer could possibly think they where calling this other florist and discovered our own ad appearing within the business bubble when doing a search on google maps.

Ads appearing on the left side of the google map page was nothing new however seeing the ad appearing within the local business bubble could easily fool the consumer into thinking they where calling this other shop.

I also noticed that the search term was something new that our ad would normally not appear until around the same time Google began to show these ads within the local business bubble towards that end of November.

I know that I can remove our ads by using negative keywords however this is yet another time consuming task. Its a shame that we need to see competitors ads within our business listing and I know since day one business names have always been a target of ads beginning with the yellowpages and online directories using business names to get traffic to their own sites and then showing a bunch of competitor ads. Google has a great thing going and I am unsure why they would be looking for yet another revenue stream but clearly this new way of showing ads within the business bubble will just cause confusion for the consumer while costing precious advertising dollars from local business.

March Madness Design Contest - Final Round

The final round of the march madness design contest is under way. The final two designs have been posted and voting has begun.

The final round is between Belvedere Flowers a flower shop located in Havetown, PA and Avante Gardens a flower shop in Anaheim, CA.

This first design is from Belvedere flowers.

The design is inspired by one of Hometowns Artist located accross the street from Belvedere Flowers. Adam designer and owner has used one of Tim Andersons pieces and created a unique arrangement that features Flaming Parrot Tulips, Pin Cushin Protea Green Spire Mums Hanging Ameranthus Gloriosa Lily Lotus Pods and Privet Berry.

Belvedere Flowers has also created a hilarious video on youtube showing him preparing to create his arrangement and showing the design construction and final creation of his piece. Way to go Adam!! Besure to check our Belevedere Flowers Youtube Channel

The second design has been created by Avante Gardens.

Designer and Owner Catherine Hillen-Rulloda has created a really incredible hanging arrangement. Once she has shown us why her and her husband operate one of top floral design schools in the country.

This arrangement features exotic tropicals including pink ginger heliconia large antheriums dendrobium orchids king protea and lush greens and their famous hand woven palm leaves.

Cowboy Boots Created With Balloons

We just had the opportunity to create a balloon sculpture of two cowboy boots and a horseshoe shaped balloon arch.

The cowboy boots measure 10 feet tall and where created using chocolate brown and black balloons. These were air filled balloons and the sculptures where all created on site.

Flowers for Cremation Urn

This arrangement was recently created for a funeral service in which the deceased has been cremated. What customer don't realize is that we can create a flower arrangement that can be used to surround the Cremation Urn.

The floral arrangement was created using a dish decorating the bottom with the flowers and using curly willow to create the arch above where the Urn would sit. We also used a butterfly that hides the connection of the curly willow so that it can be used to adjust the top of the centerpiece allowing for any size Cremation Urn to placed into the center of the arrangement.

To give an idea what the overall size of the arrangement is, we have also included a picture of it with an 11 inch tall blue ginger vase in the second picture. If you notice that there is plenty of room for a much larger Urn that can placed within the arrangement.

As an added touch we also use moss to decorate the inside of the arrangement where the urn will be placed. You can now order this product on our website for funeral services that take place within Orange County California.

We wanted to share a balloon bouquet that we created for a customer yesterday. We had the chance to use Anagrams New Letter Balloons in this bouquet. The customer wanted spell out the name with the balloons but was concerned that the balloons could not be read if they where just floating within the bouquet.

These new letter balloons allow us to tie together the balloons as shown in this picture keeping the letter balloons together. We also included one of our popular Singing Balloons within the bouquet. Pictured here is a Balloon Arch that was done in Rancho Santa Margarita yesturday that was created using teal and black balloons on a stationary frame.

This second arch was also created for a year end school event that took place yesterday. Using brightly colored balloons you can see how this balloon arch brings color to this event enahncing the water slide in the back ground. I think its time to go get my swim trunks.

25th Anniversary Tustin Street Fair And Chili Cook Off

After a long day of enduring the Hot Sun and even hotter chili tasting at the Tustin Street Fair and Chili Cook Off, we get to reflect upon an event that brought 40,000 visitors to the Old Town Tustin area. This event is also known for the largest single day cook off in the entire world.

We decided to setup a vendor booth to showcase many of the flower arrangements as well as some of the unique balloons that we feature on our website. This year we decided to do something special for the city of Tustin as well.

Since August of 2007 we have spent much time working on our skills for constructing balloon arches & balloon columns. We have done many over the past two years and wanted to take the next step which was constructing an even larger balloon arch. This one was constructed using 300 16 inch Red and Silver latex balloons.

I must say it was a little more difficult then we imagined. The Balloon Arch stretched 85 Feet long and was constructed on the corner of El Camino Real and El Camino Way. It took approximately 1 hour 1/2 to construct and was moved from the Construction Site to the Corner of Main Street and El Camino Real where it raised over the street lights measuring 25 feet high.

Everyday Flowers donated this massive balloon arch for the 25th anniversary of the event. We would like to thank the City of Tustin and of course want to congratulate all of the winners of this years Chili Cook off.

It was a great experience and we thank all of the visitors that stopped by our booth this year. We made new friends with many of the local vendors that participated this year and of course we sampled a good amount of chili as well. We even had the chance to see our good friends from Pizza Shack located in Tustin at the event.

This week will be a very busy week as the staff here at Everyday Flowers prepare for the Mothers Day Holiday. As we began to prepare for this week we are looking for ways to help our customers during these difficult times. We will be offering more locally grown California flowers this year to help keep down the cost of sending flowers this Mothers Day. Just like most businesses we have seen our share of hard times since the economic slow down and know that our customers are feeling the same difficulties. Sending flowers as a gift this year has become more difficult as we hear of other flower shops closing around us. Consumers have cut back on their spending and are looking for ways to spend their money wisely.

Specials for Mother's Day flowers are slowly being offered by larger companies. The continued trend of misleading advertising began to flood the search results on search engines promising cheaper and more inexpensive flower arrangements delivered by a local florist. We want to remind our customers and to all of the consumers that purchase flowers that those deep discounts and misleading ads come at price. The consumer will end up paying a little more in the way of convenience and service fees. The local florist also will share a percentage of each transaction that is funneled through these Order Gatherers.

The larger companies do not create and hand deliver your flower arrangements. They do not wake up in the early morning hours and shop for the freshest flowers available at the flower market. They are just the middleman looking for a way to siphon a piece of the transaction between the consumer and the florist.

Direct shipments of flowers in a box have become a new way to send flowers as a gift. But what consumers don't see is the end result of their gift. A box of flowers left on the porch waiting for the recipient to arrange them. Or a box delivered to a funeral home that relies on the funeral home director to arrange the flowers for the service. This Mothers Day will mark the last flower holiday before the long summer. Most flower shops will rely upon this holiday to get through the slower business during the summer months. The survival of many of these flower shops will depend upon how the consumer will purchase their flowers this year. Searching for a local florist is a difficult challenge online. It takes research and patience but it is possible to find a local florist. Take the time and look for that local florist. Include searches for "florist" and "flower shops" and be sure to include the "city" and "state". Florist are facing the same challenges that the local butcher faced and more recently the independent book store. Instead of adding more stimulus money to another corporate company why not spend a little this year within your local community.

This balloon arch was constructed using the companies logo colors of red black and silver creating a 38 Ft long balloon arch. With thanksgiving less then a week away we are seeing some great responses to some of the arrangements that are featured on our website. Our first arrangement shown here is our Tuscany Topiary Arrangement. Football Theme Balloon Arch

Yesterday we had the opportunity to create another Serpentine Balloons Arch at one of Foothill High Schools Football Games. This arch was constructed on site with black and gold balloons to form the serpentine arch. We used three 28 inch Football Shaped Mylar Balloons and atached them to the top of the arch.

This summer wedding season was little lighter then normal however it seems that most brides have moved their weddings to the fall this year.

Our frist wedding took place at the Balboa Bay Club Resort located in Newport Beach. This event included a complete set up of on of our White Gazebo and included the Brides Bouquet with White Mini Calla Lilies. Our second event was a Wedding Reception at the Too Faced Cosmetics building that included centerpieces made with Manzanita Branches with Green Cymbidum Orchids Blue/Green Hydranga Pink And Jade Green Roses. Well its the beginning of November and soon we will know who will be the next President of the United States. The past three months have see some incrediable changes not only in the economy but in the floral business. Recently we have see some big and smaller flower shops within our area close their doors. We here can't even imagine making that difficult decssion but as consumers change the way they purchase their flowers it becomes more difficult to compete with the growing online presence of flower ordering. This is one of the reasons we decided to create our own website for ordering our products. It's not an easy thing to do and the amount of time that is required to create and update is a full time job in itself. Our website has just completed its 4th year anniversary and we are more excited today about the continue changes that we have implemented on our online store.

We have been working to recreate many of the images that are featured on our website. By taking more time to work on our lighting and photography skills we have updated many of our original designs with newer and crisp looking pictures. We recently updated our Mixed Colored Rose Arrangement to really reflect what this beautiful arrangeemnt looks like when it is delivered. Our Rose and Orchid Arrangement pictured here that was taken on February 6, 2006 still looks great after we where able to zoom in on the arrangement to give upclose view of this one of kind rose arrangement.

One of our newest arrangemetns was recently added to the website that took one of our Tropical Designs that a customer recently ordered and had choosen to upgrade the arrangement. This tropical arrangement has continued to evolve since we first introduced it to our website in 2003. The container has changed but the design has continued on.

One of our newest sections of our website that was created in August of 2007 was our Balloons page. This section has continued to grow over the past year in which we have just began to add more balloons related to the seasonal balloon products that are coming available. Its taken over a year to create this section and to continue to update it with new and exciting products that are coming available in the balloon industry. What our customers don't relize is the amount of work that goes into this section. Its not just taken a photo and uploading it onto the website.

There is much more work going on behind the scens including locating the products and developing them in our store. There are some great suppliers to help us supply our store with these balloons products. However with these changing times it is becoming more difficult to locate specific balloons at just one source. We have just completed another new line of products added to our designers series section of our website. What we like to do is take a color scheme and create a number of different style arrangements. This new line of products is called Sage & Lavender Designers Series.

There are three arrangement using different shades of purple pink and green in these arrangements. Well with our first year complete since we introduced more balloons on our website and inside of our balloon store. Flowers And Balloons Whats New At Everyday Flowers

Well its been a long summer and with so much going on I forgot to take some time to blog about some of the things that we have been up to.

But first we would like to share a birthday party that we had the opportunity to create another spectacular serpentine balloon arch. This balloon arch was constructed with orange lime green light pink and dark pink balloons. This balloon arch is created by twisting the balloons as its being constructed creating its spiral affect.

We also had the opportunity to create a stationary balloon column using the same colored balloons and creating this column using air filled balloons. We used the customers provided butterfly Mylar balloon for the topper. Using a metal frame also helps give support to the balloon column and helps keep the column stationary.

Over the past year we have been working hard on adding more balloons to our website and August marks our one year anniversary since we began to work on this part of our business. The balloon business is changing just like the flower business however with new and materials and tools we have the opportunity to create some exciting balloon arches columns and balloon arrangements.

With some of new materials that are becoming available in the balloon industry we where able to create some of our new balloon bouquets that we will be offering for Halloween.

Our new Halloween balloon bouquets feature some of Qualatex Bubble Balloons. These Bubble Balloons are larger then a Mylar balloon and have some incredible graphics on the bubble. The new plastic material is flexible and stretches while they are being inflated creating a smooth round surface. The graphics are also very cool just take a look at this Pumpkin Balloon and Eye Ball Balloon in this Halloween Balloon Bouquet. I have to tell you that the Eye Ball Balloon looks awesome and it does come with the retina on the back of the balloon. Remember we only offer double sided Mylar balloons.

As many people know Mylar balloons last for a long time but these new bubble balloons actually last even longer and float for weeks. Look for more of these bubble balloons being part of our new balloon bouquets that are being added to our website.

Well enough talk about our balloons. Since we are talking about Halloween Balloons it must be almost time for our Autumn Flower Arrangements to come back to our website.

Our main goal is to give our customers a way to see what we are doing and to show that we are a real florist located in Orange County California. As misleading advertising is flooding the search results on most of the search engines we are trying to figure out ways to stand out from the deceptive local listings.

Featured Arrangements By Everyday Flowers

We have just uploaded three new arrangements to the website. These arrangements will be featuring some of the local hydrangea that is no available. Hydrangea will be available throughout the summer months and will continue to change color until it reaches it antique green look around August to September.

Our first arrangement has a soft lavender hydrangea with Gerbera Daises Alstromeria Lisianthus and Seafoam Statice with a Tea Leaf wrapped in the rectangular glass vase. Many of our customers don't realize this but a majority of the flowers that we use in our arrangements are grown here in California. Mostly down in the San Diego farms where we see Stock Alstromeria Fillers including Wax Flower and Seafoam Statice. Even most of our greens that we use such as the many types of Eucalyptus and the Geranium Leaves.

Which brings us to our next arrangement. Our second arrangement has white hydrangea with Gerbera Daises Roses Alstromeria Yarrow Solidaster Eucalyptus and Chocolate Geranium leafs. The Chocoalte Geranium has an incredible scent to them as well as the hint of Eucalyptus really makes this arrangement complete.

Gerbera Daises are also grown down in the San Diego area and they need a good amount of sunlight to grow with nearly perfect temperature to grow which makes San Diego the perfect location to grow these incredible flowers.

Hydrangea is also grown in these farms and are available in many types and of course colors. Annabelle and Mophead Hydrangea are the most popular when it comes to florist.

Our final arrangement features Pink Hydrangea with Roses Alstromeria China Mum Hypericum Eucalyptus Wax Flower and to top it off we have a matching ribbon with a Manzanita Branch and matching butterfly.

These three arrangements mark the beginning of the Summer Season so look for new arrangements being added to the website as we begin to see the summer flowers begin to arrive in our store.

Back in February soon after we had finished the busy Valentines holiday. We had a unique opportunity that presented itself. See I am part of a community of florist that share ideas and monitor many things that go on the Internet through a forum called Flowerchat. Since joining three years ago I have had the opportunity of talking with and learning from some of the best minds in the floral industry. If you can imagine florist all over the country sharing ideas in one location, the amount of information available can be very informative. As I was checking the new post of the day I had found a video link from a post called How 1800flowers ruined my life. Since it was posted after the Holiday I figured it may be a video concerning customer complaints against them so I decided to see what the post was about and watched a video that was created by Ron Amok.

After watching the video I realized that for the first time I had the opportunity to see through the consumers eyes what it must be like to order flowers for Valentines Day and not have them arrive. After looking at the video and reading more I soon realized that Ron was located in Aliso Viejo, CA. So I decided to do something. I contacted Ron via email letting him know that I had watched his video and apologized for what he had gone through. I wanted him to know that 800flowers doesn't represent all florist and to show him what I meant I offered to send him Two Dozen Roses from our shop.

I received an email from him thanking me for my offer. He was very much surprised by my offer and said that he would be calling us next time he needed flowers. I had a chance to sit down with Ron and talk about how I found out about his video and then discussed some of the new ways business owners are using the Internet to market their business through You Tube and Social Networking.

For the past 3 1/2 years we have been working on our website to cater to the needs of our local customers. This was our intention when we started working on it but now it is time to offer something more for our customers. Beginning this week are website has been updated and now includes a new section that includes Teleflora products.
